What ages do you care for?
Bright Hands Academy welcomes children from infancy through 12 years of age.
Our program is thoughtfully designed to support infants, toddlers, and preschoolers, which are the primary age groups we serve. However, we are happy to welcome school-age children up to 12 years old, depending on availability.
Where are you located?
We are located in Annandale, Virginia. For the privacy and safety of the children in our care, the full address and parking instructions are shared after your tour has been scheduled.
What are your hours?
We are open:
Monday – Friday
6:30 AM – 6:00 PM
We are closed on weekends and major holidays.
Are you licensed?
Yes! Bright Hands Academy is a licensed Virginia Family Day Home and follows all Virginia Department of Education licensing regulations.
Do you teach American Sign Language (ASL)?
Yes! Children are introduced to basic American Sign Language naturally throughout the day. Learning simple signs helps support communication, language development, and inclusion for both hearing and Deaf children.
Do you provide meals?
Yes!
We participate in the Child and Adult Care Food Program (CACFP).
Children receive:

• Afternoon Snack
Meals are nutritious and meet USDA guidelines.
How do parents receive updates?
We use Brightwheel to share:
• Daily activities
• Meals
• Diapering and potty updates
• Naps
• Photos
• Messages
Parents stay connected throughout the day.
What do you mean by Communication Through Three Languages?
Children experience communication through spoken English, American Sign Language (ASL), and visual communication. This inclusive approach supports language development, confidence, and understanding for children of all abilities.
Do you accept child care subsidy?
Yes.
Bright Hands Academy accepts approved Virginia child care subsidy families.

The enrollment process is simple:

Is there a waitlist?
If our program is full, families may choose to join our waitlist.
We will contact you as soon as an opening becomes available.
Do you offer part-time care?
At this time, we primarily offer full-time care to provide consistency for children's learning and routines.

How do you handle illness?
To help keep everyone healthy, children who are ill must stay home until they meet our health policy requirements.

Is Brandy the owner Deaf?
Yes. Brandy proudly identifies as Deaf and is fluent in American Sign Language (ASL). She also uses spoken English and use hearing device to communicate with hearing families. Bright Hands Academy welcomes children and families of all communication backgrounds.
Will I be able to communicate with Brandy?
Absolutely! Brandy proudly identifies as Deaf and communicates using both American Sign Language (ASL) and spoken English. She uses a hearing device and can communicate effectively with hearing families as well as Deaf families. Bright Hands Academy is committed to creating an inclusive environment where everyone feels welcome.
Why does an interpreter answer the phone?
Bright Hands Academy uses a Videophone (VP) because Brandy, the owner, is Deaf. When you call, a professional interpreter may answer first and interpret the conversation in real time between you and Brandy. The service is confidential, secure, and helps everyone communicate clearly.
What is a Videophone (VP)?
A Videophone is a phone service that allows Deaf and hearing people to communicate through a live American Sign Language (ASL) interpreter. It works much like a regular phone call, with the interpreter translating between spoken English and ASL. This service is free, confidential, and commonly used by Deaf individuals in the United States.
Do children go on field trips or outings?
Yes! Children may enjoy age-appropriate outings throughout the year, such as walks, parks, libraries, seasonal activities, and community events. All trips are planned with safety in mind, and families are notified in advance. Written parent permission is required before a child participates.
How do I know if there is an opening available?
Availability changes throughout the year. Please contact us or schedule a tour to learn about current openings or to be added to our waitlist if our program is full.
